Fridays at the Einwohneramt

For those of you who don’t know the situation, I’ll ’splain, no, I’ll sum up.

In order to get a Visa here in Germany you need health insurance that covers very specific criteria. After looking around, I found a company that provided. Took a copy of my coverage to the powers that be and was told that I needed a German translation. Okay, I wrote to my insurance company, they were nice enough to send a letter they use for Visa applicants here in Germany. Took said document back to those who requested, although I don’t think the person who requested, as you’ll find out soon, and was told that it “didn’t count,” I needed an insurance company with a German address.

The Adventure Continues…

Visited the city offices again today. Good news, ‘Chelle and Sheridan both have their Visas for the next nine months. I have my extension until January while they check my health insurance. Should hear something back today on whether it will work for the Visas or I’ll have to get a different provider. In all it has been a wonderful (and by wonderful I mean enlightening, if not wholly frustrating) experience figuring out the process. So that said, I’m having some coffee from an English roasting company that doesn’t roast your beans until you order them, how great is that?!

So, yea! Listening to Shakira, sitting in my apartment, drinking coffee, glad that things are starting to sort out. Another few weeks and I’ll be teaching English to people, with any luck at all.

All for now.

Cross-Post.

I’m feeling extrospective, perhaps not a word, but with context it’s applicable.

As I wander down the street, looking up and seeing many windows dark, it’s the ones that still are lit that draw my attention and my imagination. I want to know what keeps them up, what they are thinking about, what perhaps are they listening to, or watching to spend the time. Is that time something they are hoping will pass, or is every second something they hold onto not wanting to miss a single one?

Week in Review for Aug 1 or The Worst Part about Waking Up…

August 1, 2008 · Posted in Week In Review · Comment

It’s Friday again, I’ll fill everyone in on what’s been goin’ on (thank you Mr. Gaye). Since it is a week recap, best start with last Friday and why it was such a disappointing morning. Just about seven in the morning, I was woken by the gasps and reactions of not only the girls but people all in the two buildings here at the end of the street. Looking down from the window, someone had thrown themselves from a fifth story window onto the hood of a parked car. Broken glass and broken body. The street cleaning crews were the first to it, the paramedics a number of minuets behind.  It was hard to look out at the scene, it made my stomach just twist and felt as if I was going to be sick. Didn’t, but still left me nauseous for most of the day. Read more

In Germany. The flight wasn’t that bad, I got to sleep for a little bit of it, and having an aisle seat helped with my claustrophobia. Last night was the first night that I slept in a bed since the first night we got here. Built it last night just finishing around midnight. My body has thanked me with the best mood that I’ve had in days. Still lots of things to do and set up, but I’ve had beer with lunch a number of times now, especially since it is usually cheaper than anything else on the menu, and always less expensive than a large Coke. About that time

Right now it is less than 24 hours until we board our plane to Germany. I’m a little scared by the idea, and also excited far more than words could express. In fact, that is all I really can put down right now with a clear mind. I’ll see you all on the other side of the pond, we will be figuring out internet access as a priority. Be well.

Less of the same.

I’ve been Officially reprimanded for not having enough posts up. So for those who don’t know already, and if you’re reading this as I post it, that shouldn’t be many, since Friday night I’ve been engaged in a near non-stop visit with my friends. Our 10 year highs school reunion was this past weekend, today was the first day that I managed to get more than five hours sleep (in one go).

The best part about living is that you never know what is going to happen. Now by *best* I mean it has the ups and downs of uncertainty, the movement from baseline is greatest, we can have times we never could foresee. I’ve never planned the most enjoyable days of my life, and I hardly think I ever will.

When I am in Florida, my emotions are amplified, my reds are deeper, regardless of their shade. The brightness of blue is wide, and the grays that shade are welcome. People tend to stay where they grew up because the energies are familiar. But sometimes, because they are, it acts like similar poles of magnets, pushing because the forces are the same.

I just realized that I don’t know how to put pictures up on this, but it’s okay because I don’t have any pictures to put up. Don’t take very many, never remember to. Alright that just an aside.

Sometimes you need just a light touch and to tease out what it is you want, you may only see the hint of it, and you can be unsure if it will come to you, so you try, if no, nothing lost, if yes, gain. Remember that the next time you wash your hands and need a paper towel. Or the next time you see something in someone’s eye, giving you that electric shock that tingles down your spine.

Once again I forgot where I was, but I still remember a time that happened, the zing not the forgetting, because remembering forgetting is just sort of funny as I think about it. Was during college in my Modern Philosophy class, she was sitting across the room, didn’t know her because she wasn’t in the department. Something about that shared look, I was paralyzed and had to look away with my heart all a flutter. The same feeling I had again when I came down the escalator at the airport the first time I met ‘Chelle in person. Another time that I couldn’t have planned what happened, never dreamed I’d fall in love on that trip.

Ahhhh, I just found how to add things, it’s a beautiful little button at the top of the editor. Wonderful.

Okay, I think I’m about done.

Croatia wins 2-1 over Germany. I hope this doesn’t sour the mood of the entire country. In just a few weeks I’ll be heading to Bavaria, hopefully for the full 14 months. That’ll depend on me finding some work. Alright, need to be getting some sleep, heading to Florida tomorrow morning, and then tomorrow night is a get together for the 10-year reunion at Benchwarmers. Plan on drinking. That’s the plan. That’s about as far as the plan goes.
